Places To See In SpainThere are many places to see in Spain. Options range from costal cities to former Arabic cities to tropical islands. Barcelona In a privileged position on the northeastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula and the shores of the Mediterranean, Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain in both size and population. Granada Granada is the capital of the province with the same name, situated in the eastern part of the region of Andalusia. Geographical and scenic diversity characterizes the land. Granada features a coastal area with its warm climate; the extensive, fertile Genil plain; and the mountainous regions with a colder climate. Madrid The capital of Spain, located in the heart of the peninsula and right in the center of the Castillian plain 646 meters above sea level, has a population of over five million and a vibrant city life. Salamanca The province of Salamanca (population 363,000), situated in the southwest corner of Castilla & León on the borders of Extremadura and Portugal, covers an area of 12.336 sq. km. Lying on Spain's Northern Plateau (meseta) it forms part of the Duero River system. Sevilla According to legend, Sevilla was founded by Hercules and its origins are linked with the Tartessian civilization. It was called Hispalis under the Romans and Isbiliya with the Moors. Many of the explorers that discovered America came out of Sevilla. Tenerife The capital of Tenerife is the second most populated city of the Canary Islands with more than 200,000 inhabitants and yet maintains its relaxed paradise atmosphere. Valencia The province of Valencia is the largest of the three which make up the Valencian province. Valencia is situated in the centre of the Spanish Mediterranean coastline and overlooks the spacious Gulf of Valencia and is skirted at the back by a group of mountains and rolling plains leading to the lands of Aragon and Castilla-La Mancha. |
