Mountain Climbing

Ecuador boasts the highest active volcano in the world, the mountain peak that is furthest from the center of the Earth (because of the bulge in the Earth around the equator), and numerous other mountains at various levels of difficulty throughout the Andes Mountain range. Ecuador is a truly awesome country for mountain climbing.

Bird Watching

Over half of all bird species in South America are found in Ecuador!!! There are about 1600 species of birds in Ecuador. Bird watchers come from all over the world to Ecuador because the amazing biodiversity of the wildlife, and especially the birds.

Mountain Biking

This sport is becoming more and more popular in Ecuador. With a lack of a fully developed transportation infrastructure in rural parts of the country, mountain bikes sometimes make better time than cars do!

River Rafting

A number of fast moving rivers flow from the Andes Mountains down towards the Amazon jungle or to the Pacific Ocean. Rafting trips leaving from Quito are quite common. One of the most well-known rivers in the area is the Rio Blanco.
